A weekend of 3

Last weekend I accomplished 3 things off of my summer list. Oh yeeaaaahhh! It didn't start off as a good weekend but, it was probably one of my favorite weekends of the summer! This weekend my mom and little sister were in the area for one of her twirling competitions and my sweet boyfriend came to Denton.

Steven arrived with a dozen roses in hand and the John Legend CD I've been wanting since January. Stacha, Steven, and I enjoyed garlic shrimp pasta for dinner and Natasha's galette with ice cream as I mentioned in my previous blog post.

I made a few tweaks to the pasta and it took me two tries due to the pie crust tearing and mistaking salt for sugar but they were both delicious successes!!

My second try and finished product without the tears.

With the record player going with some Nat King
Cole, Steven asked me to dance. Yep, pretty much like what you see in the movies. It couldn't have been more perfect. I told you he was sweet!

The next day me and Steven went to Desoto and for my sister's baton twirling competition. I missed my mom and sister so much! It was a long day full of talented and impressive baton twirling skills and I was so very glad that we got to spend the day with them.

Me and Steven head home after dinner only to find that we got locked out of the house and I realize...*dun duh duuuun* I have stargazing on my summer bucket list! What a great opportunity to seize the moment?! And we took it. To think that I got to have that moment in my memory for the rest of my life, what a lucky girl I am.

Sunday was a bittersweet day it was the day that my mom, sister, best friend, and boyfriend had to go back home. Before they left we I spent as much time with them as I could. We've parted ways only for a little while. I was thankful for the time I had with them and I am very thankful for them all!

Eat Snow Cones and Go to a Festival

I got to cross of these two off in Virginia. My sister and I got some snow cones while we walked down the boardwalk.

As for the festival me, my sister, stepmom, and best friend headed to Norfolk for the 25th Annual Bayou Boogaloo & Cajun Food Festival. It was so fun! They had some ridiculously good Cajun food there! Oh, it was also so stankin' hot outside when we went, but that didn't stop our fun.

After we ate food we made "rad hats" at the Rad Hatter station and had our 2nd round of snow cones (Stacha opted for her 2nd round of Dippin' Dots). As a "souvenir" I bought some Café Du Monde coffee made in the French market in New Orleans (OoOo, fancy). Let me tell you something: that coffee is so bomb!! I highly recommend it.

Pick Berries

This experience was everything that imagined and more! My sister, Stacha, and I went to Henley Farms to pick berries. I wanted to pick strawberries until we saw that strawberry season was over. The great news was that it was now black berry season. The way that it worked was that we had our buckets, we drove down to the fields, got to picking and we paid by weight at the end.

She also told us that they do not spray anything on their berries so they were ok to eat while we picked. She didn't have to say anymore! It was super hot while we were picking but, we picked about 4 pounds in less than an hour.

What have I been doing this whole time?! This is now easily one of my favorite things to do. There have been plenty talks about what to do with the berries and still nothing yet. I think I am going to make a tweaked version of this Blueberry Peach Galette from a sweet sweet friend of mine sometime this week. I've heard that there are a ton of farms to pick blueberries at in East Texas, I'll just have to make my way over there soon!

Swim at a pool

I really lucked out on this one. I didn't go to just an ordinary pool. I went to a little water park with a couple of kiddos on a job I had. Slides, lazy rivers, pools; it sure was a good fun day!

Road Trip somewhere I've never been

This post begins several parts of our trip to Virginia to visit my family.

After driving about 13ish hours at this point we reach Nashville, TN. Our original plan was to stop and take a few hours to rest in the car. It was way to hot for that so we just continued on. Here in TN we got as freshened up as we could. We brushed our teeth and saw some lighting bugs too.

Here's to you Tennessee...the volunteer state...whatever that means.

Try a new restaurant

Since making my summer list I've actually tried a few new restaurants, unfortunately, I only documented one to show you. Sorry guys!

The new place was....*drum roll please* Old West Café in Denton.

I know, 5 years in Denton I haven't eaten there? Well...it was everything I ever hoped for!

I got the French Cinnamon Roll (a cinnamon roll cooked like French toast) with the usual bacon, eggs, and hash browns.  I was going back and forth between the cinnamon roll and French toast. As I was eating the cinnamon roll I kind of wished I got the French toast. It wasn't bad....it's just that French toast is my favoritest! And I would've switched out my hash browns for fried potatoes. Those were bomb! Overall, I would definitely go back again!

Sarah, it was her first time here too!

Twilight Tunes

Just about every week on the Square during the summer there is live music played on the Courthouse lawn. I got to catch up with a good friend I went to Thailand with 2 years ago, Amy. I didn't realize much a big deal Twilight Tunes was until seeing all of these people there. This visit was definitely not my last time experiencing Twilight Tunes.

It was also both of our first times going to this lovely event. After catching up, of course went to go eat at a Thai place for old times sake. We really miss Thailand. It made me thankful that I got to share that summer with her. Man, that Kautiao really hit the spot! Gang Mak, Kha.
